March Income Report – 2012

Here’s a quick breakdown of my March revenue and expenses.

One item of note that was surprising to me. I raised the prices of my Android apps on March 1st to $2.99 (previously $1.99). I had more traffic to my site (about 26% more) but sold less even with 2 extra days in March ( $114.91 vs $127.71 or -10%). I did not get into the details during the month. This figured that $2.99 just wasn’t the optimal price for this market. However, now looking at the breakdown, I had 20% more revenue from 2 apps and a decrease of 75% in another. Not sure why the dramatic decrease. Perhaps, the cyclical nature of these apps is different and march is just bad. I had planned on dropping the price back down to $1.99 for April, but had since decided to leave as is for now.

INCOME (March | February)

  • Adsense – $17.89 | $18.49 | -3.2%
  • Android App #1 – $55.68 | $47.08 | 18.3%
  • Android App #2 – $9.75 | $40.13 | -75.7%
  • Android App #3 – $49.48 | $40.50 | 22.2%
  • PDF – $94.10 | $28.23 | 233%

Total: $226.90

EXPENSES

  • Articles (TextBroker) – $33.35
  • Domain Registration (Hover) – $13.50
  • Hosting (Powweb) – $111.24 (Once a year)
  • SEMRush – $33.30
  • IMTalk.org – $7.50
  • LinkAuthority – $9.70
  • SEOLinkMonster (refund) – ($47.00)
  • SocailADR – $17.00
  • Unique Article Wizard – $67.00
  • e-Junkie – $5.00
  • NicheWebsiteTheme – $47.00 (Shiny Object)

Total: 297.59

Net Income/(Loss): ($70.69)

Net Income /(Loss) w/out Hosting and Shiny: $87.55

I removed the hosting and shiny to see what my income would be just from monthly operations. I hope to limit the shiny object syndrome, though I’ve already signed up for two free trials this week that could result  in a $37.00 and $97.00 hit to April’s bottom line. Both are looking promising and appear to be software that can help my niche site creating and backlinking process.

    Hi Jason,

Where can I find info on your Android apps? I don’t have an Android phone but my brother-in-law does, so maybe I can make him buy it. :P

I’d really like to share my apps here. But unfortunately I’m reluctant to as these are my main source of passive income right now and are funding my adsense niche quest. The apps are not overly complicated and could be easily duplicated. Even if the niche doesn’t interest someone, they could probably get an experienced programmer to write the app in a day for about $400 (it took me about 100 hours and 3 months to figure things out. Though I created everything myself). Right now, I’m the only game in town on Android. Perhaps, once I get the iPhone version out I may be open to sharing. I’m not saying you’d muscle into my space, just don’t want it public right now. (Sounds weird to not publicize my product)

Don’t blame you. Too many copycats out there!

Are you still using SERM Rush? Do you know if you can find out the keywords a particular category in amazon is getting traffic for?
